In their swimming lessons children learn the three basic swimming strokes and how to be 'water safe' if they get into difficulty.

Headlines for 2021-2022 Year 5 Children As part of our school curriculum, children in Year 5 have weekly swimming lessons for one term. Children who have made one or level or more of progress 68% Children who can swim 5m+ unaided 63% Children who can swim 10m+ unaided 52% Children who can swim 25m+ unaided 25% Children who achieved NC Water Skills Level 5% Headlines for 2021-2022 Year 6 Leavers The children in Year 6 had some disruption to their swimming provision when they were in Year 5. However, they were able to access 50% of their swimming lessons when they were in Year 5. Some children were not able to swim 25m unaided so attended weekly booster swimming sessions this year for a term when they were in Year 6. We prioritised ensuring that as many children as possible were given the opportunity to be more confident in the water and become swimmers. This is the overall summary of the Year 6 cohort’s abilities to swim. Children who can swim 5m+ unaided 90% Children who can swim 10m+ unaided 50% Children who can swim 25m+ unaided 30% Plans for the 2022-2023 Academic Year We have booked weekly swimming lessons for our new Year 5 classes for the autumn term. We have also made provision for booster sessions for Year 6. The Year 6 children who cannot swim 25m unaided will attend additional booster sessions in the summer term to ensure non-swimmers have every available opportunity to be able to swim 25m before they leave primary school. |
