At Gilbert Colvin Primary School, our science curriculum is designed to be a stimulating curriculum that nurtures children’s natural curiosity and their intellectual development.  It inspires our pupils to embrace challenge, have a passion for learning, take risks, collaborate, and aspire to achieve their best in our aspirational and inclusive environment. 

Through our high quality science curriculum, our children:

• Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
• Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries
• Are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implication of science today and for the future
• Are inspired by our school and local environment
• For the future – learn about past and current national and international scientists

Our science curriculum is taught using the principles of instruction developed by Rosenshine.  We use the PLAN primary science resources to support our coherent and progressive scheme of work and planning to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.  This enables our pupils to know more and remember more as they develop their knowledge and skills.  Working scientifically skills are embedded within our curriculum as pupils focus on the key features of scientific enquiry and seek answers to questions
